Do boats come with trailers? Should you buy them when buying a boat?

Boat trailers are essential, especially for regular boaters. Not only for them, if you don’t have the dock at the marina (permanent one), then you should have one to take the boat to the home or anywhere else after boating.

All boats won’t come with trailers. You can buy the boat and trailer as a package (combined) or if you don’t want the trailer, then you can buy only the boat (not with the trailer). As a buyer, you can decide whether you want it as a package (boat + trailer) or only the boat.

You are allowed to decide whether you can buy it as a package or only the boat. The price won’t change much if you are buying only the boat. But, if you don’t have a trailer, then you should buy one with the boat. Boat trailers are essential, and you should have one if you have a boat.

It is not like a rule (if you have the boat, then you should have a trailer). If you keep the boat at the marina and you won’t take it out of the water, then you don’t even need to have one. If you are using a sailboat or any big boats, then you probably won’t take it out from the water.

Those types of boats are exceptional because often you won’t take it out from the water and it is not easy to take them out from the water. You need big machines to take that type of boats out of the water, and towing a sailboat or any big boat with a car or jeep is impossible, you need big trucks for that.

If you are using any big boats, then you don’t need to buy a trailer (generally) because it is hard to take it out from the water manually, and towing is very hard. Trailers are essential for small boats, and it is good to have one even if you don’t use them regularly.

Will the price decreases if you buy the boat and trailer separately or combined?

Sometimes the overall price may decrease a little bit if you are buying it as a package (boat + trailer). But often it will vary a little bit. Some boat dealers might only sell it as a package, and others no. If it is a package deal, then you can expect a bit lower prices than buying it separately.

But, this scenario won’t be the same all the time (decrease in the price if you are buying it as a package). The boat dealers will state whether it is a package deal or a separate deal. If it is a package deal and you want only the boat (not with the trailer), then you might need to pay extra dollars (not necessarily all the time).

First of all, if the boat dealer accepts that (buying only the boat, not the trailer, or vise versa), then only you can buy the boat separately. Otherwise, you can’t. Generally, if you are separating a package deal (buying only the boat, not the trailer, or vise versa), then you need to pay extra. Not all the time, you may need to pay extra dollars.

But all the time, package deals can’t be separated. If the dealer says it can’t be separated, then you can’t buy them separately. So, you need to be aware of that as well. And not all the time, you may need to pay extra dollars if you are separating a package deal.

Overall it won’t affect the prices much. Unless you liked the boat very much and you don’t want the trailer with the boat, and the dealer says it is a package deal (and it can’t be separated) but, you want it separately, then you may need to pay more for that boat. Other than that, the prices will not vary a lot if you are buying it combined or separately.

Should you buy the boat with or without the trailer?

Buying a boat with the trailer is highly recommended because sometimes, the overall price may decrease a little bit if you are buying it as a package. You don’t need to go to the boat dealer again (twice) for buying the trailer separately. It will save you time and money a little bit.

As I mentioned earlier, the overall price may decrease a little bit or more if you are buying it as a package. And it will save a lot of time if you buy both at once rather than buying it separately (going near the boat dealer two times or twice).

If you don’t have the appropriate trailer (not in a good condition or it doesn’t fit well for the boat) for the boat or don’t have a trailer at all, then don’t hesitate to buy the trailer with the boat. As I said at the beginning of the post, if you go boating regularly and you won’t store the boat at the marina, then you should buy one.

Benefits of buying a boat trailer along with the boat

  • Sometimes, the overall price of the boat + trailer may decrease a little bit.
  • It will save you time because if you didn’t buy now, later on, you should buy one, then it will consume your time (the whole buying process).
  • You can ensure in the shop itself whether the boat is fitting well in the trailer or not. You can do it there itself quickly.
  • You can ensure in the shop itself whether that boat is looking well in the trailer or not.

There are no many benefits of not buying a boat trailer along with the boat. The one benefit may be the price of the boat trailer may decrease in the future (it may or may not).

Bottom line

Buying a trailer along with the boat will save you time and money (sometimes). If you are buying a boat for the first time or you don’t have a trailer at all, then buy the trailer along with the boat. Buying a trailer later will be another small problem.
